Prince Denarius is a very solemn young man who comes from a country full of crumbling marble columns and crumbling old politicians. As the only son of two parliamentary monarchs, he is skilled in politics, graceful of form, elegant in speech, and, like many noble young boys, excels at all sorts of sport. Prince Denarius is the youngest politician in his country, as the politicians in his country refused to train any would be rivals well, thus leaving the younger generations except for the Prince to be excessively bumbling when it comes to government. However, this left Prince Denarius with little to talk to his peers about, and so he’s very bad at socializing with people his own age and even worse with talking about or understanding his own feelings about emotional matters. Prince Denarius lives on one side of a cluster of three kingdoms, one of which houses his best friend, Prince Petrarch, a very emotional and impulsive absolutist monarch, and the other of which houses their other best friend, Princess Helena, a mercurial and moody young lady. Ever since they were born, Petrarch and Denarius’s parents have been fighting over which of their sons would marry Helena, whose parents rule quite the richest and most beautiful kingdom between the three. Because of this, since they were children, there’s been considerable tension between all three of the friends, and on the night of summer solstice it culminates when Helena is kidnapped by a wicked sorcerer who crashes to earth on a falling star. Petrarch first volunteers to save her, as he’s already passionately declared his devotion for Helena, but Denarius’s parents compel him to pursue her as well when Helena’s parents declare that whomever might save her will win her hand in marriage. Unsure how he feels about Helena, but intrigued by both the challenge of the rescue and worry for his friend, Denarius complies with his parents, though it causes strife between him and his best friend, Petrarch.
